Interesting times

RadioInsight is going to be very interesting this year:

Next week will be the 20th anniversary of the passing of the Telecommunications Act of 1996 by Congress. With now two decades in the rear view mirror there have been millions of words written on the positives and negatives of the changes brought on by the passage of the bill.

Over the course of this year we will look back at 1996, as it took place. We’ll look at the programming changes and deals that paved the way to the radio landscape we know today. And we start with where we were in January 1996.

Has it really been 20 years?  Where have we been?  What happened back then?  Let’s see what I/we remember.

I started out as a child, then things kind of grew from there.  I spend way too much time around computers and radios, but I do like to take a break once in a while.  I'm not a real doctor, but I played one on the radio in college. A bit later on, I wrote an article that was published in COMPUTE!'s Gazette (Commodore 64/128 magazine). I also think digital watches are a pretty neat idea.

  1. And the recent changes in copyright law are causing Liv365 to shut down at the end of January. They really jacked up the royalty rates, but not sure Live365 ever had a viable business model as ad revenue minus expenses is peanuts. The next question will be will radio royalty rates rise?
