Another Birthday

40 years is an eternity in radio, and WCBS-FM will be celebrating their 40th birthday this weekend:

It’s a weekend four decades in the making. WCBS-FM, the venerable Oldies turned Classic Hits station, is marking a milestone, after launching the vintage Top 40 tunes on July 7, 1972. To commemorate the occasion, the station is welcoming back, or playing vintage clips of, CBS-FM’s most popular DJs.

You might be wondering about the two years CBS-FM turned into Jack-FM.  Wouldn’t that make this their 38th birthday?  Well, while Jack-FM was on, the CBS-FM oldies format shifted to the HD2 frequency and an online stream.  Technically, this kept CBS-FM “alive” during that time.  It should be interesting to hear some voices that haven’t been on the station in a while (i.e. Cousin Brucie).

I started out as a child, then things kind of grew from there.  I spend way too much time around computers and radios, but I do like to take a break once in a while.  I'm not a real doctor, but I played one on the radio in college. A bit later on, I wrote an article that was published in COMPUTE!'s Gazette (Commodore 64/128 magazine). I also think digital watches are a pretty neat idea.

Have something to say?
