Frequency to Watch: FM 94.7

Harold Camping, founder of the Christian radio network Family Radio, predicted that Jesus Christ might return on September 6, 1994.

That event didn’t happen.

He also predicted that May 21, 2011, would be the date of the Rapture, and the world would end on October 21, 2011.

Those events didn’t happen, either.

Family Radio has been the owner of 94.7 WFME-FM in Newark , NJ, since 1966, but that ownership appears to be at an end.

Family Radio lost money when Harold Camping’s predictions didn’t come to fruition.  So, they started selling radio stations.  So far, WKDN (Camden, NJ) and WFSI (Annapolis, MD) have been converted from non-commercial to commercial status and sold to commercial broadcasters.  Recently, they filed an application with the FCC to do the same conversion for WFME.

The sale of WFME is very, very likely, but we don’t know when it will occur.  For now, it can only speculated what new programming will appear on FM 94.7, but whatever it is, it will be big news.  There hasn’t been a new commercial FM frequency available in NYC for a very, very long time.  There’s already been plenty of speculation on various radio sites and message boards, however the sports radio predictions sound the most probable.  ESPN has been looking for an FM outlet in NYC for the last few years, and an opportunity is rising right now.

On October 16, 2011, Harold Camping stepped down as host of Family Radio’s Open Forum program.  I predict that Harold Camping won’t be making any predictions for a while.

I started out as a child, then things kind of grew from there.  I spend way too much time around computers and radios, but I do like to take a break once in a while.  I'm not a real doctor, but I played one on the radio in college. A bit later on, I wrote an article that was published in COMPUTE!'s Gazette (Commodore 64/128 magazine). I also think digital watches are a pretty neat idea.
