Microsoft will never call you out of the blue

I just got a phone call from someone who claimed to be from Microsoft technical support and that I was experiencing antivirus issues.  He then asked me to turn on my PC so he could diagnose it.  Well, I wasn’t about to fall for that, so I hung up the phone.  For one thing, I have Microsoft Security Essentials installed, and that keeps me pretty secure.  Secondly, I was pretty sure that Microsoft’s tech support department wouldn’t call me out of the blue to check up on my virus protection.  This blog post pretty much bottom lines it:

Microsoft will not make unsolicited phone calls to help you with your computer. If you receive a phone call like this, hang up.

Yep, I hung up, alright.  If you get a call like this, you should too.
